First Time Trying a Powerlifting Class & Photo Diet!

Today I tried something NEW at my CrossFit gym!

As I still consider myself a "newbie" at the gym, I have been very hesitant to branch out of my my comfort zone and attend a class that wasn't a crossfit class!

You see, my gym is a "CrossFit" gym, but actually offers a veriety of classes!

Some of these classes are:
Power Lifting
Olympic Powerlifting
Kettle Bell Club
Running Club
CrossFit
Strongman
Mobility
Romanian Conditioning/Boxing

I have only tried a few of the classes on the list, so I decided to be brave tonight and try something new!

I attended a power lifting class!

Basically there are 3 lifts to Powerlifting:
Bench Press
Squat
Deadlift

So I decided to work on bench press, and WOAAH did I learn there is allllot more to a bench press than actually just pressing the bar up and down!

The class was allot different than I expected, for most of the class I just worked technique with a pvc pipe!

Even though I did not "feel the burn" or get a great workout in, I DEFINITLEY am more prepared for the next time bench press is programmed into a daily wod!

If you have never benched before, or been to afraid to try at the gym, here is a helpful video with tips on how to bench properly!

Photo Diet:
I was SO happy to get back to eating my normal food today!!

Breakfast: Juiced these delicious fruits & veggies! (so much better than pancakes)

Lunch: Cashew Chicken & Spinach Salad!

Snack: (unpictured) Sweet Potato Drizzled w/ Honey

Dinner: Yc's Mongolion Grill Chicken Stir Fry with Veggies!

I felt SO much better about what I ate today than yesterday!

I think I have really begun to enjoy feeling control over what I am eating.. The food doesn't control you, YOU control the food!

This is a great breakdown for carb/fat & protein intake for me! I usually aim for my graph to be very equal or higher in fat/protein content!

Now the best part:
This is just a rough estimation, but if everyday were like today I would be about 5-7 lbs lighter in 5 weeks!

What classes do you usually take at the gym?

Do you lift weights at the gym?

  1. Very healthy foods. I don't go to the gym. I just workout at home, but I enjoy compound workout with dumbbell.

  5. I've always wanted to take a power lifting class but have yet to do so. My routine now is 3x/week general lifting (following a New Rules of Lifting program) and 2-3 times a week of CrossFit. I think I'm getting enough weights into my workout routine. What I really need to do is work on improving my cardio!

  6. I'm all about lifting weights in the gym. I enjoy it more than cardio or circuit training. I have a program that I do that is about an hour and a half 3 times a week. I am in love with it. But sometimes when I don't have time I split my days into shorter segments.

I just found your blog. Congrats on all the progress you've been making. Keep it up =)
